Trussville, Alabama a nice community sitting just outside the city limits of Birmingham has become home to a new adult men's club called Sensations. The club opened for business on Feb. 11 against the protest of the city of Trussville and a group called Citizens to Protect Derby Parkway.
Sensations was intentionally denied a business and liquor license by the Jefferson County Circuit Court. However the case was carried all the way to the Alabama Supreme Court of Jefferson County and Judge Houston Brown in a ruling Feb. 5 ordered the county to give Sensations a licence to operate.
March 2 Trussville Mayor Gene Melton and Alton Parker the lawyer representing the group Citizens to Protect Derby Parkway appeared before the Birmingham City Council to voice concern. They are filing an appeal but they worry it will not be heard until the fall leaving the strip club open until then. Don Blankenship represents the club and is confident it will stay open.
Derby Parkway is called such because the Birmingham Race Course is located on the parkway. So people do not get the notion Sensations sits in some area of pristine beauty. The Race Course is operated by Milton McGregor who is in favor of gambling in Alabama or Bingo machines. He has been in the headlines lately for his threat to have Macon County sheriffs confront the State Troopers ordered to shutdown the gaming operation or Bingo machines at Mr. McGregor's Victoryland Race Track.
These same gambling machines have been operating on Derby Parkway for many years without a protest. Milton McGregor has avoided staying out of prison even though some the politicians he has corrupted have not been so lucky Richard Scrushy, Don Siegelman and Larry Langford all have been convicted in Federal Court for corruption.
Sensations can provide a legitimate career path for some girls who choose to drop out of school. The club could even provide shelter in the way of homes for the young girls who have chosen to give birth to a beautiful baby rather than choosing the alternative. This means your tax dollars do not go to supporting their child. Sensations my be all some girls can do their bodies may provide more income for them than their minds.
Local high school principals should even give thought to adding Sensations to the co-op programs for the 18 year old seniors or juniors. With the economy being what it is many families need all the income they can get and it has been said dancers do earn a nice income. All in all we are a society of vices and who is the ultimate judge of what vices are okay. Sensations was proven to be a legal operation by the Alabama Supreme Court and until the case is heard again Trussville must live with the decision.
